Style Savvy: Fashion Forward Review

I admit I initially dismissed the Style Savvy series as shovelware, but all the positive reviews piqued my interest enough to download the demo, and I’m glad I did. After playing through the entire demo, I was hooked and immediately went out to buy the full game.

My initial impression of Style Savvy: Fashion Forward was that it reminded me of Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, except you decorate people instead of homes. The demo version primarily revolves around helping one particular stalker-like customer to copy the look of another character in the game by choosing clothes, styling her hair, and applying makeup to emulate the other character. This plot point is also present in the full game. You can also change your own look and help a variety of other customers in the shop. There is much more to do in the full game, obviously.

N3DS_StyleSavvyFashionForward_01-499x300In this game, you take on the role of a boutique owner. At the beginning of the game, you find yourself transported to a strange town under odd circumstances. You are then put in charge of the town’s fashion boutique and tasked with helping the town’s residents to become more fashionable. In addition to choosing outfits for customers based on what they tell you they are looking for, you are also responsible for choosing what inventory your shop will carry. You get a sample of every item you purchase for your own wardrobe. You can also visit the hair salon and beautician to get a new look for your character or to help give clients makeovers. It is more addicting than it seems after you play it for a while. The story is kind of silly, but it is super fun to play.

There is also an interior decorating mechanic in this game in which you make use of miniatures you collect to decorate rooms that magically appear in a chalet in town. I haven’t played with this feature too much, but it is kind of like a less robust version of Happy Home Designer. You can share a room you’ve decorated via Streetpass.

You can also become a model and a fashion designer, though I haven’t unlocked these features yet.

Certain Amiibo are compatible with this title and allow you to unlock special clothing and accessories based on the specific character. After you scan in your Amiibo, a character that looks a lot like the Mii character that the Amiibo is registered to appears in your shop wearing the Amiibo’s fashion item. I tried one of my husband’s Amiibos, and it turned him into a girl. It was kind of hilarious. There are a few male NPCs, but there doesn’t appear to be a way to get them as customers. All of the clothing items in the shop are for women.

Style Savvy: Fashion Forward is a nice relaxing game with a surprising amount of depth. I highly recommend it if you are a fan of games like Animal Crossing and Nintendogs. A lot of gamers (especially female gamers for some reason) tend to write off all “girly” games, but Style Savvy shows that it is possible for video games to cater to stereotypical feminine interests and still be super fun with solid game play.

Tasty Peach Studios – Halloween 2014 Re-release and More

I’ve posted about Tasty Peach Studios and their awesome plushies before. They have recently hit a patch of bad luck. Their van and containing a lot of equipment and merchandise was stolen while attending a convention in Florida, and to raise extra funds in order to keep their business going, they will be re-releasing two of their retired limited edition Halloween Meowchis. The original black bat and candy corn will be available to preorder starting today. They will also reopen a limited number of preorders for the limited edition white tiger Meowchi that was originally only available at Colossalcon at the same time (there will be an unlimited preorder for him one last time at a later date).

MeowchiCandyCornBat

WhiteTigerMeowchiI’m excited for the black bat and original colored candy corn since I only managed to get he recolored variants. I was lucky enough to get the white tiger at Colossalcon. He was the main reason I wanted to go to Colossalcon this year. He is super cute and definitely worth adding to your collection! Look how fierce he is!

Tasty Peach Studios will also be offering a number of new products for preorder this month. The sea bunnies and mint chocolate chip Nomwhal will be available for preorder starting 8/15, and a Kickstarter for giant Meowchis is scheduled to go live on 8/20. I’m hoping to get the strawberry lemonade sea bunny and both giant Meowchis, depending on the price. The nomwhals and sea bunnies will be permanent store-staples, I believe, while the giant Meowchis will likely only be available from Kickstarter.

I just wanted to help promote this awesome company and help them be able to continue to bring us new kawaii plushies. If you have been debating purchasing a Meowchi or other plush from them, now is the time!

Meet Salem

Salem

We brought our new cat Salem into our life about a month ago. He was a stray who just showed up on our porch one day. After he decided to make our porch his home, I started feeding him because he looked skinny and sad. He was so friendly and cuddly, he didn’t deserve to go hungry. He kept trying to come inside with us whenever we came home, follow us whenever we left and he always head butted me when I came outside to see him. It was like he picked us out to be his new owners, and there was nothing we could do about it. He must have heard that the world’s prettiest female cat lives with us, or maybe that we have premium wet cat food. Cats sure are manipulative!

I took Freyja out on the porch to meet him before we brought him in to make sure they wouldn’t hate each other. She seemed uninterested at first, but Salem rolled over to show her his belly. I think that means he trusted her. At least Freyja didn’t seem to hate him.

SalemLater that day we took him to be scanned for a microchip since he didn’t have a collar. No chip. None of the neighbors knew anything about him and no one put up “lost cat” signs or online listings looking for him. I think someone dumped him off since he didn’t have a microchip or collar, wasn’t neutered, and was skinny and dirty. We thought he was older than Freyja when we decided to adopt him since he’s taller and has a way bigger head, but the vet said he’s between 6 and 12 months old (neither my husband nor I have had cats before Freyja, only dogs, so we aren’t exactly cat experts). I saw a couple of other black cats roaming around at the other end of the block around the same time. Some irresponsible person’s cat probably had kittens that they couldn’t find homes for, and decided to dump them outside. We’re estimating his birthday as Halloween since he’s an adorable black cat.

He’s just a little bit younger than Freyja, but he’s taller and weighs a couple pounds more (now that he gets regular meals!). We kept them completely separated until he got tested for FIV and FeLV and got his first round of shots, and then slowly introduced them afterward. Freyja became interested in him pretty quickly and really wanted to play with him. When we finally allowed them together, she was a bit to rough in her playing and Salem got frightened, but they learned to get along pretty quickly and became great friends within a couple of weeks.

This is the first week we’ve let them be together while we’re at work. It’s the cutest thing ever when they sleep next to each other and groom each other. I was nervous every about introducing a new cat to Freyja after everything I’ve read online about bringing home a new cat, but they already love each other.

Salem

Salem is the most cuddly cat we’ve ever met. He likes to follow us around and sit on the couch while we watch TV. He’s pretty calm for a kitten too. Freyja is definitely the more playful of the two, though Salem can get going when we bring out a wand toy or catnip. Catnip seems to work better on Salem than on Freyja.

We already had him neutered, so there won’t be any little black baby kittens, as adorable as that would be. I’m only saying that here since that’s the first thing every single person we’ve told about him has asked (Freyja was already spayed just before we adopted her).

Black cats are the best! From what I’ve heard from other cat people, black cats are usually the friendliest and most cuddly, but they are the least likely to get adopted. Apparently some people are still superstitious of them. Possibly even worse, some people don’t like black cats (and dogs) because they think they don’t photograph well. These are both really idiotic reasons to overlook a cat or dog. If you’re looking for a new pet, please consider adopting a black kitty of your own! You won’t regret it!

I’m Back, Again

Again, I seem to have neglected this blog. I’ve been pretty busy lately. I’m still doing the whole college classes thing. I only have a few classes left, and am switching to half time for the remainder of my degree to give myself more time to work on my coursework as well as my own personal projects.

Aside from school, I’ve been busy making items for my etsy shop, which I hope to launch within the next month or so. I’m making a variety of items including tooth fairy pillows, hair bows, 3DS pouches, and jewelry. I want to have a decent inventory before launching.

The most exciting thing that has been going on in my life recently is that we’ve recently adopted a new cat. He is a black domestic short hair male named Salem. Freyja is super excited to have a playmate. I will post more about him in his own post.

(The features image of me as a Powerpuff Girl is unrelated. I just found it on my phone.)
