All Hail the Virtual Boy

Virtual Boy

I’ve been thinking about getting a Virtual Boy for several years now. I know it’s a completely pointless console to have, since you can really only play it for about 10 minutes at a time before getting a headache, but it looks neat and I wanted one. My husband bought it for me about a week and a half ago at the Cleveland Classic Console and Arcade Gaming Show.

It can be a gamble buying Virtual Boys because they are prone to many different problems and most are sold “as is.” My Virtual Boy looks just like new. The dealer we bought it from had it completely refurbished with new LEDs inside.

Virtual Boy Virtual Boy 2

I got three games at the show: Wario Land, Mario’s Tennis, and Teleroboxing. I’ve also ordered V-Tetris from eBay, which should arrive in a couple days. Teleroboxing is the only game of these that could be considered “virtual reality.” It is also my least favorite of these games because I have no idea what I am doing.

Virtual Boy 3

Everyone claims that you can only play the Virtual Boy for about 10 minutes before getting a headache. I played all three of the games I bought at the show the day I bought them for about 10-15 minutes each, back to back, and didn’t experience a headache.

That’s all I have to say about the Virtual Boy right now. I may write a more in-depth article about this console later.

Retro Duo NES and SNES Clone Console Review

Retro Duo

Here is a review of the Retro Duo clone console for NES and SNES that I wrote for LevelSkip.com. The Retro Duo is a great alternative to the original hardware for classic gamers and import gamers.

Retro Duo NES and SNES Clone Console Review

The Retro Duo is an NES and SNES clone console developed by Retro-Bit, which can play both NES and SNES cartridges. It can play games for these systems released in any region, including Japan, Europe, and North America. The Retro Duo is not licensed by Nintendo, but it has the highest capability of any similar clone system. It supports both first-party and third-party SNES controllers (but not NES controllers). The Retro Duo is perfect for gamers who no longer have a working NES or SNES, or for gamers who simply don’t have the space for both an NES and SNES.

Fossil Fighters – Nintendo DS Game Review

Fossil Fighters for Nintendo DS

Fossil Fighters is another one of my favorite RPG games for Nintendo DS. It is a lot like Pokemon, except all of the creatures are dinosaurs and you have to resurrect them from fossils you dig up rather than capturing them.

Fossil Fighters – Nintendo DS Game Review

Fossil Fighters is a role-playing game for the Nintendo DS. It was developed by Nintendo SPD, Red Entertainment, M2, and Artdink and published by Nintendo. Fossil Fighters was released in Japan in 2008 and in North America in 2009. Fossil Fighters is called Bokura wa Kasekihoridā in Japan, which means “We Are Fossil Diggers.”

Splatoon 2 Splatfest Guide for New and Returning Players

Splatoon 2 Splatfest Guide

I wrote a guide for Splatfest in Splatoon 2 as a quick reference guide for new and returning players who want to learn more about the Splatfest even.

Splatfest is an in-game special event in Splatoon 2. Find out what special features are available during Splatfest, how to make the most of Splatfest, and which team won each Splatfest so far.

Splatoon 2 Splatfest Guide for New and Returning Players

Splatfest is a special event that takes place in Splatoon 2 on Nintendo Switch. This event was originally introduced in the first Splatoon game on the Nintendo Wii U. Splatfests are recurring multiplayer events that take place on certain Saturdays in Splatoon 2, where players choose between two different teams and compete to see which team is victorious. The teams change for each event and are based on two different random things pitted against each other, such as Squid vs Octopus or Ketchup vs Mayonnaise. Each Team Battles it out in Turf War for 24 hours to decide the winner.

In Splatoon 2, each Splatfest is hosted by Pearl and Marina from the hip-hop duo, Off the Hook (in the first Splatoon, these events were hosted by the pop duo, The Squid Sisters, Callie and Marie). Pearl and Marina each represent one side during Splatfest. They perform on the main stage in Inkopolis Square, with their ink and outfit colors changed to match the ink color of the team they are representing.

Each upcoming Splatfest is announced before the event begins, giving players time to choose their teams. Upon choosing a team, each player is given a tee shirt featuring their chosen team. You can equip this shirt and begin acquiring abilities to fill its ability slots before each Splatfest begins. You will lose the shirt after Splatfest ends, however.

Style Savvy: Pokémon Edition!

Eevee in a cute outfit

I had a great idea for a game that I wish Nintendo would make, even though I know they probably wouldn’t: Style Savvy: Pokémon Edition. It would be just like the regular Style Savvy games, but set in the world of Pokémon, and your customers would be Pokémon trainers looking for outfits for their Pokémon. Some customers would also be looking for matching outfits for themselves and their Pokémon.

The recent announcement of hairstyles for your partner Pokémon in the upcoming Pokémon: Let’s Go games sparked this idea. There have already been Pokémon that can be dressed up in previous Pokémon games, including the “cosplay Pikachu” introduced in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Some main series Pokémon games also allow the player to change their own outfit and hairstyle.

Eevee has bangs!

Style Savvy: Pokémon Edition would be a spin-off Pokémon/Style Savvy crossover focuses mainly on the dress-up aspects of Pokémon.  A hair salon for Pokémon would also be available in the game, much like the hair salon in the previous Style Savvy games.

I know a lot of hardcore Pokémon fans would hate this idea, but there are so many other Pokémon spin-off games. This game idea isn’t any more ridiculous than Pokken Tournament, Pokémon Art Academy, or Pokémon Pinball.

Cosplay Pikachu

Style Savvy: Pokémon Edition would be popular with a particular niche of Pokémon fans. Style Savvy is more popular than many gamers realize, and Style Savvy: Pokémon Edition would be popular with fans of both series. It may also bring new fans to the Style Savvy series who have never even considered playing a dress up game before but would be interested in a Pokémon version.

There are so many other Pokémon spin off games that have been released over the past couple decades. I think a Pokémon Style Savvy crossover would be an excellent addition to the ever-growing Pokémon game library.

Preferably, this game would be on the Nintendo Switch, rather than 3DS.

Classic Gaming: Original Console and Cartridge Vs Emulators and ROMs

Classic Gaming: Console vs. Emulator

Many gamers argue whether classic gaming is best done on its original hardware or by using emulation software. This article will help you to decide which is best for you.

Classic Gaming: Original Console and Cartridge Vs Emulators and ROMs

Classic gaming is becoming an increasingly popular hobby as the original generation of gamers gets older and becomes nostalgic for the classic games they grew up with. There is a lot of debate amongst classic gamers as to whether it is better to play classic games on the original hardware, or if emulators are a preferable way to play classic games. Both options have pros and cons, and many gamers may prefer a middle ground between these two options. There are several factors to consider when deciding between playing classic games on their original consoles, on fan-made emulators, or by utilizing official methods of emulation developed by the games’ license-holders.
